Sometimes Weekly Isn't Enough

Your teen has been in therapy. Maybe they're on medication. But they're getting worse. PHP and IOP bridge the gap between weekly outpatient care and inpatient hospitalization.

When Depression or Anxiety Takes Over

Your teen can't get out of bed. They're missing school. Weekly therapy isn't breaking through — they need daily support to stabilize and start functioning again.

After a Psychiatric Hospitalization

Your teen is stable enough to come home but not ready to drop back to weekly therapy. They need intensive support to prevent another crisis and build toward recovery.

Avoiding Hospitalization

Your teen is in crisis — suicidal thoughts, severe anxiety, falling apart. PHP provides hospital-level intensity without inpatient admission when clinically appropriate.

PHP or IOP —
Which Fits Your Teen?

Our clinical team will assess and recommend the right level. Many teens move from PHP to IOP to outpatient therapy as they improve.

Licensed Clinical Experts

Led by board-certified psychiatrists, psychologists, LCSWs, and MFTs. Clinical expertise to recognize when teens are struggling and adjust treatment in real time — not at the next scheduled check-in.

Proven Therapeutic Approaches

DBT, CBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, and Solutions-Focused Therapy. Research-backed methods that reduce symptoms and build lasting skills — not just stabilization for right now.

Family Built In

Weekly parent education groups, caregiver support sessions, and family meetings run throughout treatment. You're not waiting on the sidelines — you're part of the work.

Connected Through Every Level

Your teen's treatment team actually communicates. From crisis through PHP and IOP to outpatient therapy, care is coordinated — no starting over, no gaps between levels.

What Your Teen's Days Look Like

Structured, purposeful, and supportive — every day includes therapy, skills-building, and time with peers who understand.
01
Daily Structure
Daily schedule with group, individual therapy, and psychiatry. Mornings focus on mindfulness and movement; afternoons on skills (DBT/CBT/ACT).

  • Skills Group (DBT/CBT)
  • Therapeutic Groups
  • Psychiatry / Individual Therapy

02
Connection and Community
Peer groups, creative activities, art therapy, and wellness programming give your teen more than clinical treatment — they give them connection with others who genuinely understand what they're going through.
03
School Continuity
Optional morning study hall means your teen can keep up with critical schoolwork during treatment. We reduce the academic stress so they can focus on getting better without falling further behind.
  • Optional study hall

What Parents Tell Us

I was terrified my daughter would need to be hospitalized. PHP gave her the intensive support she needed while staying at home. Within two weeks, I saw my kid again.

The first week was hard — she didn't want to go. By week two, she was coming home and actually talking about what she learned. PHP gave us our daughter back.
R.L.
Parent · Burlingame
I appreciated that they called me after every session to let me know how things went. As a parent you feel so helpless — having that communication changed everything.

We'd been on waitlists for months. Wellity had my son assessed within 48 hours and in PHP the following Monday. I couldn't believe how quickly things moved.

What Parents Ask

Will my teen have to be hospitalized?
No. PHP and IOP are alternatives to hospitalization, or step-down programs after a hospitalization. Your teen attends during the day and comes home every evening.
If our clinical team determines your teen isn't safe in an outpatient setting, we coordinate appropriate care — but that decision is always made with safety as the priority, and we walk you through every step.
Can my teen continue school during treatment?
PHP typically requires a temporary medical leave — it runs 7.5 hours a day, 5 days a week. We offer optional morning study hall to help your teen keep up with critical assignments.
IOP is more compatible with partial school attendance, running 3 hours a day, 3 days a week. Your teen's care team will help you plan the right approach for their school.
Does insurance cover PHP and IOP?
PHP and IOP are typically covered by major insurance including Kaiser Permanente, Optum/United Healthcare, and through county behavioral health partnerships including San Mateo County.
We verify benefits before your teen starts, so you know your financial responsibility before any commitments are made. No surprises.
How long will my teen be in the program?
PHP typically runs 2–4 weeks. IOP typically runs 4–8 weeks. Length depends on clinical progress, not arbitrary timelines — we monitor outcomes throughout and adjust as your teen improves.
Many teens step down from PHP to IOP as they stabilize, then transition to regular outpatient therapy. Your teen's care team guides each transition.
How involved will I be as a parent?
Very. We offer weekly parent education groups, caregiver support sessions, and regular family meetings throughout treatment. Your involvement is a core part of the work — not an optional add-on.
With your teen's consent, we coordinate with you consistently and give you real tools to support them at home and after discharge.

You Don't Have to Figure This Out Alone

Most families come to us not knowing exactly what level of care their teen needs. That's okay — that's exactly what we're here for. Call us, tell us what's happening, and we'll help you understand your options.
